Games with Somewhat Rare Features
Ever play a game, like Zelda OoT, and wonder to yourself: "How many other games have ridable horses?"
So you try your luck on Google in search for games that have the same features, maybe done better or worse? Its hard to find fun lists and statistics like this when you want to.
So today I was thinking to myself, what if instead of searching through useless pages for fun facts, why don't I ask gamers?
So here's how this is gonna work: If you find a rare feature in a game, post it and i'll add it to my list. OR If you find a game with one of the rare features already listed, post the name of the game.
I'll start with these features:
Ridable Horses
-Oblivion - Pretty much like all games, horse gets stuck all the time though
-Zelda games - Probably the best, because you can shoot from the horse and you have a way to call it
-LOTRO - Very helpful feature in a MMO
-Harvest Moon games - Most of em have small areas, but atleast you can feed the horse
-Daggerfall - I'm curious how this works
-Shadow of the Colossus - You can stand on them?
-Assassin's Creed
-Sacred
Marriage
-Fable - It really seems like they rushed it in Fable
-Harvest Moon games - Never played much of any HM game myself, but what i've seen, the Marriage system seems pretty interesting
-The Sims games - Depending on the game its more or less interesting
-Sid Meiyer's Pirates - TO BE DETERMINED
-Perfect World - Sound's pretty deep
Huge Dynamic Map
-Morrowind - Probably one of the best game maps of all time
-Oblivion - Not half as good as Morrowind IMO, but the graphics and beauty are stunning
-Daggerfall - Sounds epic, it's a shame I missed out on it. Though I think it was the one with nudity and I would have been a kid at the time.
Digging/Blasting Holes
-Red Faction - Unscripted blasting, sounds awesome
-Liero - A 2d game like worms, more sandboxish though
-Worms - On some types of grounds, you can blow holes through em
-SimCitys - Tunels for transportation and water
Optional/Buyable Player Houses
-Daggerfall - Houses sold at random, sounds great
-Oblivion and Fable - A house for almost every city
-LOTRO - Mostly pretty bare looking, but houses are epic in MMOs
-The Sims - From what i've seen, Castaway is the only game where your characters actauly have to build their own
-Ultima Online
-Runescape
-Amimal Crossing
Babysitting Characters Throughtout the Game
-ICO - Make funny noises and get the girl to follow you. What?
-Yoshi's Island - Baby Mario keeps floating away!
Weather and Day/Night cycles
-Morrowind, Oblivion, and probably Daggerfall - Morrowind had some epic sandstorms
-LOTRO - One of the best weather systems i've seen, the raindrops don't even clip the player
-Zelda games - Extremely fast day/night, but still cool
-Guildwars... JUST KIDDING! - I wish it would
-MasterSword/HL Mod - Can you imagine a mod team turning a FPS into a FP multiplayer RPG that has cool details like weather and day/night? I couldn't, but then I found this.
-Fable - I forgot how it works
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R - I don't know much about it
-Harvest Moon games - Except the weather isn't just visual here, it affects the farm
-Animal Crossing - Affects the animals
-The Sims
-FFXI
Unique Game Features
-Jedi Outcast and Academy - Awesome lightsaber combat
-Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 - Fastest running speed and highest jump height in any DM game
-Commander Keen - Pogo Stick for high jumps, Riding happy bouncyballs, taking a magic foot to a hidden area, and mooning the screen are only a few of the perks in this series. ID's best IMO
-Half Life 1 - Longjump suit, Snarks, and a Tau Cannon
-Half Life 2 - Amazing physics, GRAVITY GUN, and a sweet airboat
-Portal - The Portal gun cant be explained, it must be experianced.... But, the game is too short to experiance it
-Super Smash Brothers - So unique, people forget its in the fighting game category with games like Tekken and DOA
-Homeworld - Probably my favorite strat game, thanks for remindinding me. I think it was the first 3D Space strat
-Freelancer - If you like good LAN games or private servers, you SHOULD NOT miss this!
+Instead of always blowing eachother up, why not take your freinds and take out fleets of ships, run a trade mission, or buy upgrades? The combat system has got to be the most addicting flight-combat system ever? Plenty of huge mods exist to make the game last much longer with more enemies/ships/zones and even ownable space stations.
-GTA - Needs an explination
-Crysis - Thowing stuff, sometimes even enemies
-Deus Ex - Never tried it, sounds interesting.
-Beautiful Katamari - Rolling into smaller stuff to make a bigger ball
-HL/HL2 mod "Battlegrounds" - Civil war FPS, very rare

Well, there was this one game a long time ago called Red Faction, it was a game where you could basically blow up anything, dig mile-deep holes into the rocks with explosives and such. And all of that was unscripted, you could do it whenever basically.
Never seen another game that had that type of deal, but that is about the only thing I can think of right now.

Crysis:
-You can interact with a lot of things (pick newspapers up and throw it at enemies)
-Hide in the bushes and the koreans wont even find you,
-Find 'mods' to your guns like assault scopes, sniper scopes, laser pointers, silencers.

Yeah! Red Faction was hilarious.
You could build a bunker dozens of feet underground then use the rail gun from there to pick people off anywhere on the map.

Daggerfall, prequel to Morrowind (well there was Battlespire and Redguard before it, but they're not as "unique"), has got to be up there next to Doom for best games I've ever played and seen.
Basically, think Oblivion in 1996. You could buy horses, houses, and ships - and it wasn't just certain houses you could buy. They would be sold at random, and it was awesome. There was also a banking system, something still unseen in modern Elder Scrolls games.
In terms of exploration and gameplay, I think it'd be safe to say that it's at least a hundred times the size of Oblivion. No trace of sarcasm at all, I'm dead serious: it's that huge, with thousands of caves and dungeons to explore. The combat system was also unique: If you swing your mouse diagonally, you swung your weapon diagonally. It was also one of the first to feature real-time climbing and swimming.
In addition to all this, it was one of the first and few games to feature the "realistic" leveling system - i.e. leveling up through skills, not experience. This in addition to the large amount of classes and races to choose from made it one of the most addictive dungeon crawlers I've ever played.
I'd go to eBay as quick as I can if I were you. I'm gonna have to do the same thing; don't want to miss out from ever playing the greatest RPG ever again.

- Portal, and the game it was based on, had that neat portal mechanic.
- Deus Ex had the ability to handle situations in tons of different ways. Lots of freedom in that game.
- The growing popularity of no health bars in FPS games. You get progressive indications that you are really hurting, but they go away if you don't take damage for a bit. I prefer it that way actually!
- Making your own dudes and dudettes in Soul Calibur 3 was fun for a fighting game.
- Crash Mode in Burnout was something I never saw before. It's addictive and silly.

HL1 with the Tau cannon (basically rocketpropell yourself anywhere with enough skill and practice)
HL2 with the gravgun (in my oppinion a weapon which hasnt found its match in terms of hilarity and usefullness in any DM game up till now.
Portal with the portal gun (and of course the cake)
Worms... because it is such a great old game.

Shadow of the Colossus
Ride or stand on a horse, climb up big foes and kill them through hitting the weak spots.
Beautiful Katamari

the cake is a lie!
The portal gun is an amazing weapon, imagine putting that together with the gravity gun in HL2, you can call the weapon god.

A pretty cool list we got going here.
Everyone did kind of miss the point a little though, but it's alright. I meant games with rare features as opposed to exclusive features.
Like "buyable houses" instead of "the only game i know with..." sort of things.
But don't worry, i'll make an exclusive category and put all these unique games in there.
And from your posts i'll also add "Buyable housing" and.. well there was another one, I forgot though. I'll get it while i'm re-reading through.
OK, Updated. Let me know if I missed anything

Sacred had ridable horses
First elder scrolls game had a spell where you could create tunnels in dungeons IIRC
SimCity4 had some minor ability for digging and making holes for transportation.
FFXI has weather in it, FFX had the thunder plains, Sims2 has day/night cycles and weeks

Can we fit the Sims 2 in there ? Because you can almost do everything (excpet riding horses xD).
Also, in Perfect World you can get married, ride a pet (or swords), buy a house (I think, I only heard of that), you can also take your bride with you on your pet.
Also, a little pervert, but in Fable you could have sex (in the Sims too) xD.

The reason i'm not adding that feature, even though it is rare, is because:
1. It could invade the thread
2. Could start a conterversial argument
3. Theres quite a few sites dedicated to games with sex or nudity. (How do I know? It's a long story.)
Otherwise I would have added it already.
As for The Sims 2, when I put The Sims Games on the list I mean all Sims games.
I may have missed putting it in a few categories, i'll double check in the morning. It's too late now, i'd probably end up somehow messing up my post like this -> "[/I][/I]txet herer;/b;"
I better not touch it.

It's hard to deny that allowing the player to have sex with a person in a video game, also on a relatively regular basis, is a very interesting feature.
That said, I think you're worrying a bit too much with those points, most especially since this thread would have exploded after RedStar brought it up.

What was that game where you pinch people and can grab the floor and use it as a shield?
Edit: It was Stretch Panic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hmyn5VkLMYU
You could also jump by grabbing things and catapulting yourself past them.
